Davidson impressive in return with Metros

Niagara Metros pitcher David Davidson is making the most of his time with the Metros. In three games Davidson has registered two saves in three appearances and is 3-for-3 (1.000 avg) at the plate with two singles, a grand slam, 5 RBI and a 2.000 SLG%.

Davidson, who played with the Metros as a 16 year-old in 2000, signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2002, and played in the Bucs' system for 6 years.

His best minor league season was 2006, when he moved up 3 levels in the system, and compiled a 3-2 record, with a 2.01 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 76 innings. After being added to the Pirates 40-man roster in the winter of 2006-07, Dave made it to "the show", appearing in two games as a September call-up with the Pirates, before being sent back down to AA at the conclusion of the year.

Davidson was also a member of Team Canada, at both the the World Cup of Baseball in 2009 and in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

After playing the rest of the '08 season with the Altoona Curve of the Eastern League, the hard-throwing lefthander resurfaced with the Florida Marlins in 2009. Dave hurt his arm pitching for the Marlins, and was forced to undergo shoulder surgery, in June of '09. He was subsequently released by the big-league club, and is currently trying to work his way back to the professional level.
