In Game One, Niagara carried a 5-3 lead into the 7th, but the 'Cats scored a run, and had runners on 1st and 2nd, before the Metros turned a big double play to end the rally, and preserve the win.
Steve Baldinelli went five innings allowing three runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Chris Magarian pitched a perfect 6th inning, before former pro Dave Davidson came on in the 7th to earn his 2nd save of the season. Steve Hough took the loss for Brampton.
Aaron Butler led the Metros offense registering a double, single and a walk while scoring twice. Tim Collins collected a 2-run single and an RBI walk, while Mike Czerwieniec and Jono Marcheterre added a single and an RBI each. Ken Appleby had 2 singles for the 'Cats.
In Game Two, the Battlecats held a 7-2 lead after five innings, only to have Niagara score two in the 6th, and six more in the 7th, highlighted by a Dave Davidson grand slam, to steal a 10-8 victory.
After getting RBI singles from Davidson and Butler in the 6th inning to narrow the gap to three, the Brampton pitchers struggled in the 7th giving up six runs on just two hits with five walks.
Davidson led the Niagara offense with a career high five RBI going 2-for-2 with a single and homerun. Chris Pickles and Czerwieniec added RBI singles while Joe Roach and Baldinelli chipped in with RBI’s.
Tim Robulack had a double and single for Brampton.
Jonathan Paul, Niagara’s fifth pitcher of the game, picked up the victory. Geoff Strong made his first start of the season, after his return from NCAA Niagara University, and pitched well until an injury forced him from the game. He went 2 1/3 innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out two.
