The Markham Pioneers and Leaside Leafs split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon with Markham shutting out the Leafs 5-0 in Game One and Leaside coming out on top in Game Two by the score of 9-8.
In Game One, Markham's Steve Horsey improved to 2-0 on the season throwing a complete game two hit shutout registering six strikeouts. He has now thrown 18 scorless innings in 2010.
Thomas Biskup led the Pioneers going 2-for-3 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored.
Shane Moore and Mark Petrou also drove in a run each in the victory. Garrett Gilroy took the loss for Leaside allowing four rns (three earned) on four hits over 4 2/3 innings.

In Game Two, Markham rallied from behind scoring four runs in the 7th only to come up short 9-8.
Leaside had a 16-hit attack led by the trio of Bryan Rock (3-for-4), Henry Yap (3-for-4) and Shawn Jones (3-for-5). Kyle Kristenbrun contributed with two hits and two RBI including his first homerun of the season. Matt Nailer also registered two hits and an RBI while Colin Cummins drove in two runs in the victory.
For Markham, Moore was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Petrou was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Leafs Josh Howsam recorded the win going six innings allowing eight runs (four earned) on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Markham's Alex Bruce suffered the loss allowing nine runs (six earned) on 13 hits with a walk and two K's over five innings.
Canadians sweep doubleheader against East York
The Whitby Canadians got two strong pitching performances Sunday night at home as they swept a doubleheader from the East York Bulldogs winning by scores of 8-2 and 6-3.
In Game One, Whitby's Dave McElroy improved to 2-1 on the season allowing two runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over six innings of work.
Rob Patterson continued to spark the Canadians offense going 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBI. Brad Crone also recorded two hits while Jason Fleming and Sean Tremaine both drove in two runs each in the victory.
Jeff Smith was 3-for-3 for the Bulldogs. Shawn Leah registered the loss allowing four runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts over four innings.
In Game Two, Canadians southpaw Mike Arsenault allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out a game high 12 Bulldogs, en route to the 6-3 win. He now has 33 strikeouts in 24 innings this season.
Tristan Beadle belted a three-run home run, his first of the year while Brad Crone had two doubles, and finished with four hits on the day.
Pat Smith recorded the loss for East York. He went six innings allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Royals down Martingrove 8-4
The Oshawa Royals got a good pitching performance from Jordan Prosper as they defeated the Martingrove White Sox by the score of 8-4 Sunday afternoon.
Darryl Noble worked three innings for the save. The White Sox Ryan Donnely was credited with the loss dropping his season record to 0-2.
