Thornhill Reds improve to 4-0 in GTBL
The Thornhill Reds improved to 4-0 in the GTBL as they won both ends of a doubleheader against the Whitby Canadians by scores of 5-2 and 6-4 Sunday night on the road.
Travis Skelton led the Reds offense going 5-for-8 with two runs scored including 3-for-4 in game one while Daniel Lehmkuhl contributed with three hits. In four games this season, Skelton ranks among league leaders with a .500 average (8-for-16).
Thornhill's Miguel Sammy outdeuled the Canadians Dave McElroy in game one to pick up the win while Reds rookie Len Wood picked up the win in relief in game two. Harman Brar recorded the save in both games for Thornhill, his first two of 2010.
Glanbrook downs Burlington 7-1
The Glanbrook Grizzlies defeated the Burlington Brants by the score of 7-1 Sunday night improving their COMBL record to 4-2.
In his second start of the season, Glanbrook's Chris Cooney picked up the victory going seven shutout innings allowing four hits with seven strikeouts. "Big Country" is now 2-0, with 12 shutout innings in the books, all against his former team the Burlington Brants.
Leading the Grizzlies offense was Tim Sogan who was going 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks, three RBI and three runs scored. Also with multiple hit performances were Lou Proietti who went 3-for-5 with a double and Corrie Morrison who finished the game going 2-for-3 with two walks.
Alex Baldassi took the loss for Burlington, going five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Jason Egbuna went 2-for-4 with a double for the Brants.
