Redbirds down Pioneers 4-3
The Thornhill Redbirds scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th en route to a 4-3 victory over the third place Markham Pioneers Tuesday night.

The Redbirds Shawn Scott pitched five strong innings allowing one run on four hits with three walks for his first win of 2010. Jeff Swartz closed out the 9th giving up one hit for the save.

Markham's Brad Binns took the loss allowing three runs (2 earned) on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts. His record falls to 3-3 on the season.

Peter Westlake and David Bernholtz both went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Redbirds.

Shane Moore made his return to the Pioneers lineup after three weeks away, going 3-for-5. Reg Sarne and Jesse Dynes both added two hits each in the loss.

Glanbrook rolls past Milton 8-3
The first place Glanbrook Grizzlies defeated the Milton Red Sox by the score of 8-3 Tuesday night at 9th Line Park improving their COMBL record to 10-3.

Glanbrook starter Justin Czorny recorded the victory going 6 1/3 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts. In just his second appearance of the season, Andrew Page was dominate striking out seven of the nine batters he faced to collect the save.

Offensively, the Grizzlies collected only six hits, however took full advantage of a tough sky and a few Milton miscues which led to six unearned runs. Kevin Walsh went 1-for-4 with a home run. Corrie Morrison, Tim Sogan, Jamie Kozak, Aberdeen Chan and Czorny all chipped in with a hit a piece.

For Milton, Jon Roth went 3-for-5 with a double and two singles in the loss.

Metros roll past Erindale 13-2
The Niagara Metros collected a season high 15 hits Monday night on the road as they defeated the Erindale Cardinals by the score of 13-2.

Niagara starter Geoff Strong threw six strong innings allowing one run on six with two walks and six strikeouts for the victory. T.J. Tavender pitched the 7th inning giving up run on one hit with three walks, while striking out one. Erindale starter Chris Currie took the loss.

Veteran catcher Jono Marcheterre had a career game for Niagara, collecting a double and three singles with 4 RBI to lead the way. Andrew Sorochan drove in five runs which included a two-run double and a three-run homerun while Steve Baldinelli added a triple, two singles and two RBI. Evan Baglieri added two hits with a double and an RBI while Dan Proctor added a triple and three runs scored.

Geoff Cullen had an RBI double for the Cardinals.

Stars roll past Tecumseh Jrs 8-1
The Windsor Stars defeated the Tecumseh Jr.s by the score of 8-1 Friday night in Windsor.

Stars starter Steve Carter went the distance allowing one run on six hits with nine strikeouts for his fourth victory of the season.

Bryan Dufour led the Windsor offense going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Dan Hansen went 2-for-3 with a season high three RBI. Alex Carducci and Dave Mastrodicasa contributed with two hits each in the victory.

Tecumseh's Trudell tosses 1-hit shutout
The Tecumseh Thunder continued to roll as they blanked the Windsor Athletics by the score of 11-0 in five innings Friday night. This was Tecumseh's sixth consecutive victory.

Thunder starter Kyle Trudell was impressive throwing a one-hit shutout while striking out two. Windsor's Kevin Knudson suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (5 earned) on four hits with six walks and one strikeout.

Andrew Masojc continued to lead the Thunder offense as he extended his hit streak to 17 games going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Bill Gillen drove in a season high three runs while going 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Dan McFarlane also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in the victory.

Notes... Masojc moved his average up to .500 on the season (32-for-64)... also ranks among Ontario leaders with 20 runs scored and a .560 on base %.

Papalia leads Oshawa over Markham 10-8 in 10 innings
After leading 7-1 in the 7th, the Oshawa Royals needed an extra frame to put away the Markham Pioneers 10-8 on Friday night.

Chris Papalia's two out two run single and 4th and 5th RBI of the night, in the top of the 10th secured the victory for Darryl Noble and the Royals.

In his Royals debut, Victor Simon went 7 2/3 innings allowing seven runs (6 earned) on 14 hits with one walk and one strikeout. Noble closed out the game throwing 2 1/3 innings giving up one run on four hits with two walks and two K's for his second victory of the season.

The Pioneers Alex Bruce took the loss allowing three runs on one hit with two walks over two innings of relief.

Papalia led the Oshawa offense going 2-for-4 with a season high five RBI. Jason Graham added two hits with an RBI and three runs scored while Jeremy Brittain went 1-for-3 with an RBI, three walks and four runs scored. Adam Morton also drove in two runs in the victory.

Jessie Dynes was 4-4 for the Pioneers, with two RBI and three runs scored. Newcomer Justin Back, looked impressive in his GTBL debut, adding two hits including a double and two RBI.

Milton downs Metros 6-1
The Milton Red Sox defeated the Niagara Metros by the score of 6-1 at Community Park Thursday night.

Solid pitching and stellar defence set the tone for the Sox, as veteran starter Ian Zettle was solid throwing seven innings of shutout ball. Zettle surrendered six hits, walked three and struck out two as he relied on his defense to keep the Metros off the score sheet. Scotty McTrach closed the game allowing just the one run while giving up three hits.

Milton, although outhit 9-6, drove runs in when the opportunities arose. Kevin Greer was sensational at shortstop, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBI while fielding everything hit his way. Veteran Kevin Cooper recorded an RBI single, Cavin Bratton and junior call-up, Craig Howse, all registered hits.

For the Metros, Jon Paul recorded three hits and Joe Roach added a pair in the loss.

Toronto defeats first place Baycats 7-6
The Toronto Maple Leafs answered with five runs in the top of the 7th and scored the game winner in the 9th as they defeated the first place Barrie Baycats by the score of 7-6 Thursday night on the road.

Toronto starter Marek Deska went six innings allowing six runs on 10 hits with four walks and eight strikeouts in a no-decision. For the second straight night, the Leafs Ryan Mashinter was victorious throwing two shutout innings with one walk and one strikeout. Cody Powell picked up the save, his first of the season.

Barrie's Paul Spoljaric was solid through five giving up one run on two hits with two K's. Chris Kemlo suffered the loss as he lasted 3 2/3 innings allowing six runs (2 earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts.

Jordan Castaldo belted a three-run homerun for his third of the season to lead the Leafs. Jeremy Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo homerun and two runs scored. Kern Watts also collected two hits while driving in two runs including the game winning RBI single in the 9th. Damon Topolie rounded out the offense chipping in with two hits including a double in the victory.

The Baycats Ryan Spataro went 4-for-4 on the night with two RBI and a run scored. Jordan Lundberg contributed with two hits and two RBI while Stevie Lewis added two hits in the loss.

Brantford wins 6th straight with 8-4 victory over Twins
The Brantford Red Sox rolled past the Mississauga Twins by the score of 8-4 Thursday night. This was the Red Sox six straight victory and 12th win in their last 13 contests.

Brantford starter Marc Andre Major recorded his first victory of the season after going seven complete innings allowing one run on two hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Colin Buckborough gave up a three-run homerun to Chad Marshall in the 9th.

Twins starter Adam Kudryk was handed his first loss of the season giving up six runs (5 earned) on four hits with six walks and two K's.

For Brantford, Tyler Burnell belted a two-run homerun while Wayne Forman and Chris Emanuele both contributed with two hits each in the victory.

Chad Marshall led Mississauga going 1-for-4 with a three-run homerun. Branson Joseph was held hitless (0-for-4) ending his seven game hit streak.

Windsor Stars defeat Athletics 3-1
The Windsor Stars defeated the Windsor Athletics by the score of 3-1 for their 10th victory of the season Wednesday night.

Stars starter John Picco went six strong innings allowing one run on five hits with a season high 13 strikeouts. Steve Carter retired the Athletics in order in the 7th for his third save of the season.

Leading the Stars offense was Tom Grubb who went 2-for-3 with a solo homerun and one run scored. Anthony Dufour also went 2-for-3 with a double. Kris Klassen extended his hit streak to 10 games.

Late rally leads Maple Leafs past Hamilton 5-4
The Toronto Maple Leafs overcame a 4-0 deficit answering with five runs in the final three innings including a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 9th by Jordan Castaldo as the Leafs defeated Hamilton 5-4 Wednesday night.

Toronto starter Matt Walker lasted 6 1/3 innings allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and five K's. In relief, Ryan Mashinter pitched 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball giving up two hits while recording three strikeouts for his first victory of the season.

Hamilton starter Matt Martinow went six innings allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a no decision. Mike Gottschalk was charged with the loss after allowing the solo shot with two out in the ninth.

Castaldo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI to lead Toronto. Kyle Morton, Rob Gillis and Jeremy Walker all collected two hits each in the victory.

Hamilton's Matt McGraw went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Jordan Windisch belted a two-run homerun, his first of the season.

Brantford defeats Panthers 7-1
The Brantford Red Sox continued their winning ways Wednesday night at home as they defeated the Kitchener Panthers by the score of 7-1 for their fifth straight victory.

Leading the Brantford offense was Joe Calameco who went 2-for-4 with a two-run homerun and three RBI. Tyler Burnell and Hyung Cho also contributed with two hits each.

Mike Glinka went 3-for-5 with a run scored to lead the Panthers. Ben Kangas chipped in with two hits while driving in the lone run.

The Red Sox Mike Meyers threw six shutout innings allowing five hits while registering a game high eight strikeouts for the victory.

Kitchener starter Ross Davis suffered the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Pennell named "Extra Innings" Senior Baseball Player of the Week

Thornhill Reds Justin Pennell has been named this week's "Extra Innings" Senior Baseball Player of the Week. This past week, Pennell led the Reds offense batting .667 in two games going 6-for-9 with one double, two homeruns, four RBI, four runs scored and a 1.444 SLG%. He also made two outstanding defensive plays versus Markham. He currently leads the GTBL and ranks among Ontario leaders with a .515 average (17-for-33) with four doubles, three homeruns, 12 RBI, six stolen bases and a .909 SLG %.

Honourable Mention...

John Amendola, Burlington Brants (COMBL)
This past week, Amendola helped lead the Brants to a 2-1 record highlighted by a 15-5 victory over the first place Glanbrook Grizzlies. That game, Amendola collected four hits including two three-run homeruns, two singles and a game high seven RBI. For the week he batted .600 (6-for-10) with two homeruns, a double, seven RBI and three runs scored with a 1.300 SLG%.

Andrew Mosajc, Tecumseh Thunder (CAN-AM)
Mosajc continues to lead the Thunder offense helping his team to five straight victories this past week. He batted .467 (7-for-15) with nine runs, three RBI, three stolen bases and a .600 OB%. On the season he ranks among Ontario leaders with a .492 average (30-for-61), a .549 on base %, 18 runs scored, eight RBI and six stolen bases. He also extended his hit streak to 16 games.

Dan Romanycia, Tecumseh Thunder (CAN-AM)
In four games this past week, Dan Romanycia helped lead the Thunder to five victories as he batted .444 (8-for-18) with eight RBI, two doubles and three runs scored. On the season he is batting .333 (23-for-69), with four doubles, 14 runs scored, 11 walks, and a team leading 16 RBI.

Mike Arsenault, Whitby Canadians (GTBL)
This past week, Whitby ace Mike Arsenault was one batter shy of a perfect game as he threw a complete game no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Canadians 11-0 victory over the Meadowvale White Sox. Arsenault has been the Canadians workhorse with a team leading 37.0 innings pitched. Over those 37 innings he has struck out 56 which includes more than 10 K's in four of his seven appearances. He has an overall record of 4-2 with an impressive 1.95 ERA.

Dustin Turner, Niagara Metros (COMBL)
In his lone start this past week, Niagara's Dustin Turner had his best outing of the season as he threw a complete game 4-0 shutout over the Oakville A's allowing just three hits with a season high 12 strikeouts.

Joe Stone, Ottawa Fat Cats (IBL)
In four games this past week, Stone led the Fat Cats offense batting .583 (7-for-12) with five runs and one RBI. He curently leads Ottawa with a .400 AVG (22-for-55) with eight RBI and 12 runs scored.

Dave Latour, Barrie Baycats (IBL)
This past week, Latour helped lead the first place Baycats to a 2-1 record as he batted .500 going 5-or-10 with a double, three RBI, two runs and two walks. He is currently 10th in IBL batting with a .339 average (20-for-59) wit 14 RBI and 13 runs scored.

Greg Densem, Mississauga (IBL)
This past week, Densem helped lead the Twins to a 4-2 record as he had one of his best week's of the season batting .500 (7-for-14) with one double, two RBI, five runs scored, seven walks and a .696 on base %.

Chris Emanuele, Brantford Red Sox (IBL)
This past week, newcomer Chris Emanuele helped lead the Red Sox to a 4-0 record as he batted .438 (7-for-16), with five RBI, four runs, three walks and an .579 on base % in his first week in the IBL.

Oshawa blanks Pioneers 10-0
The Oshawa Royals took advantage of five Markham errors as they blanked the Pioneers by the score of 10-0 Monday night at Kinsmen Stadium.

Oshawa starter Jason Graham went the distance throwing a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.

The Pioneers Brad Binns was charged with the loss after allowing nine runs (only 3 earned) on nine hits with four walks and three strkeouts over six innings.

Leading the Royals 11-hit attack was Sean Cunningham who was 3-for-4 with four RBI. Jeremy Brittain, Brent Tamane and Chris Papalia all contributed with two hits each while combining for seven of Oshawa's ten runs in the victory.

Tecumseh captures fifth straight
The Tecumseh Thunder continued to roll as they captured their fifth straight victory defeating the Windsor Athletics by the score of 7-6 Monday night.

Tecumseh's Andrew Masojc and Tom Beale both went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Dan McFarlane also recorded two hits including a double and two RBI. Jason Boutette also drove in two runs in the victory.

Thunder starter Andrew Pierce went four innings allowing six runs (4 earned) on six hits and three K's in a no decision. Reliever Dan Wolicki recorded the victory after throwing three shutout innings with four walks and three strikeouts.

Windsor's Barry Keith suffered the loss allowing seven runs (6 earned) on 11 hits over six full innings.

Red Sox roll past Kitchener 9-0
The Brantford Red Sox continued to roll as they blanked the Kitchener Panthers by the score of 9-0 Monday night at home. Brantford has now won 10 of their last 11 contests including four straight.

Leading Brantford was Chris Emmanuel who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Joe Colameco contributed offensively going 2-for-5 with a homerun, three RBI and two runs scored. Hyung Cho also added two hits in the victory.

Four Brantford pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts on the night. Red Sox starter Gabe Ribas recorded his first victory after throwing four innings off shutout ball allowing just one hit with five strikeouts. Mike Meyers struck out four over two innings of work not allowing a hit while Brian Speck collected six K's over two full innings allowing three hits. Robert Ramsdale would strikeout two of the three batters he faced in the 9th.

Kitchener's Brandon Farquhar suffered the loss after giving up four runs (3 earned) on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

Thunder win marathon 18-12 over Athletics
The Tecumseh Thunder captured their fourth straight victory as they defeated the Windsor Athletics by the score of 18-12 Sunday night.

Leading the Thunder 17-hit attack was Dan Romanycia who went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Frank Jeney drove in a season high five runs which included a three-run triple. Dan McFarlane went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Matt Stezycki and Dan Wolicki added two hits each in the victory.

Mike Mitrevski and Justin Levesque both added two hits each for the Athletics. Mitrevski, Bobby Gilligan, Dale Kryway and Matt Granger all drove in two runs each in the loss.

Tecumseh's Rob Blunck recorded the victory after allowing six runs (5 earned) on nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Will Alexander was handed the loss after allowing eight runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Brantford downs Majors 8-4
The Brantford Red Sox captured their 12th victory of the season as they defeated the London Majors by the score of 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Labatt Park.

Red Sox starter Scott Robinson improved to 4-1 on the season as he went six innings allowing four runs (2 earned) on seven hits with one strikeout. London starter Pierre Miville-Deschenes took the loss after lasting just four innings giving up seven runs (4 earned) on five hits with five walks.

Leading the Red Sox offense was Tyler Patzalek who went 2-for-5 with a homerun and three RBI. Chris Emmanuel was 2-for-3 with and RBI and two runs. Wayne Forman also contributed with two hits while scoring twice in the victory.

Chauncey Ward led the Majors going 2-for-4 in the loss.

Maple Leafs defeat Mississauga 5-4 in 10 innings
In a battle for third place in the IBL, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Mississauga Twins by the score of 5-4 in 10 innings at Christie Pits Sunday afternoon.

Leafs starter Drew Taylor had one of his best performances of the season going 6 1/3 innings allowing one run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in a no decision. Cody Powell picked up the victory after going 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Mississauga starter Luis Castillo gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. Matt Bannister suffered the loss after allowing one run on one hit with two walks and one strikeout in one inning of relief.

Danny Gibbons led the Toronto offense going 2-for-3 with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first, his second of the season. Brian Ivan had his nine game hit streak come to an end going 0-for-4.

The Twins Derek Gordon belted a three-run homerun in the top of the ninth to tie the game 4-4. Ian Choy and Branson Joseph both went 2-for-5 in the loss.

Kitchener rolls past Fat Cats 10-6
The Kitchener Panthers scored four runs in the 7th and three more in the 8th en route to a 10-6 victory over the Ottawa Fat Cats.

Leading the Panthers was Mike Winter who went 2-for-5 with a three-run homerun in the 8th. Kevin Childs and Luke Baker both contributed with three hits each while Mike Glinka added two hits and drove in two runs in the victory.

Ottawa's Joe Stone was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Marshall MacDonald and Tony Farago both belted solo homeruns while registering two hits each in the loss.

Kitchener starter Mike McGillivray picked up the victory after going 7 1/3 inning allowing five runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Derek Sinko recorded his third save after giving up one run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Ottawa starter Matt Hummell went 5 1/3 inning allowing three runs (1 earned) on five hits with six walks and five K's. Joel Richard was issued the loss after lasting just 1 1/3 innings giving up four runs on four hits.

Thunder sweep Windsor Stars
The Tecumseh Thunder swept both ends of a doubleheader Saturday night against the Windsor Stars winning by scores of 3-2 and 4-2.

In Game One, both pitchers went the distance with Tecumseh's Kyle Trudell Sr. coming out on top over Stars ace Steve Carter. Trudell went seven complete innings allowing two runs (0 earned) on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Carter suffered his second loss of the season allowing three runs, all in the fifth inning, on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

For Tecumseh, Bill Gillen went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Andrew Masojc and Dan Romanycia both contributed with one hit while driving in a run each in the victory.

Windsor's Kris Klassen and Alex Carducci both recorded two hits each in the loss.

In Game Two, the Thunder got another strong pitching performance with Ron Rousse and Mitch Kramer giving up just four hits against the talented Stars offense.

Rousse picked up the victory allowing two runs (0 earned) on three hits with one strikeout. Kramer pitched the final three innings of shutout ball for the Thunder allowing just one hit with two K's for the save.

Windsor's Adam Myers was charged with the loss after allowing three runs (2 earned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts over four innings of work.

The Thunder's Jason Boutette went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a run scored. Bill Gillen also contributed with one hit and an RBI in the victory.


Twins roll past Kitchener 9-4
The Mississauga Twins defeated the Kitchener Panthers 9-4 Saturday afternoon at Meadowvale Field. This was the Twins 11th victory of the season.

Ian Choy sparked the Twins offense going 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Greg Densem and Derek Gordon both drove in two runs each while Densem added two hits going 2-for-3. Carlos Garcia, Branson Joseph and Brendan Emmett all contributed with two hits each in the victory.

Twins starter Bill Martin picked up the victory going 6 2/3 innings allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Franco Pace pitched the final 2 1/3 innings allowing one hit with one walk and six strikeouts for the save.

Panthers starter Ross Davis suffered the loss allowing four runs on four hits with six walks and one strikeout. Taube and Kevin Childs both went 2-for-4 in the loss.

Ottawa ends 10-game losing streak with win over Baycats
The expansion Ottawa Fat Cats ended their 10-game losing streak Saturday afternoon as they defeated the first place Barrie Baycats by the score of 7-5. This was Ottawa's first victory since Mon, May 24.

Leading the Fat Cats was Kyle Barclay who had a big game going 4-for-5 with a double and season high four RBI. Mark Charrette contributed with two hits and two RBI while Matt McGovern rounded out the Ottawa leaders going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Dave Latour led the Baycats going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Matt Logan and Donavan Latour were both 2-for-4 with Logan driving in two runs in the loss.

Fat Cats starter Mike Lynch gave up two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. In relief, Brett Sabourin recorded his first victory for Ottawa going 1 1/3 innings allowing one run on no hits with two strikeouts.

The Baycats Brad Bissell was tagged with his first loss of the campaign after allowing six runs on 10 hits with six walks and six strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

Six-run 7th leads Maple Leafs over Guelph 12-6
The Toronto Maple Leafs scored six runs in the top of the 7th inning en route to a 12-6 victory over the Guelph Royals Saturday afternoon.

Brian Ivan led the Leafs 15-hit attack going 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Jordan Castaldo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homerun, his first of the season, and three RBI. Kyle DeGrace belted his fourth homer of the season while going 2-for-5 with two RBI. Raul Borjas, Brian Corochan and Damon Topolie all contributed with two hits and one RBI each in the victory.

The Royals Jeremy Ware and Kevin Hinton both added two hits including a homerun and two RBI each in the loss.

Toronto starter Marek Deska improved to 4-1 on the season after going seven complete innings allowing five runs on nine hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Guelph southpaw Meleti Melehes dropped his first of the season after allowing six runs on eight hits with two alks and four strikeouts over six innings.

Milton splits with Oakville
The Milton Red Sox went 1-1 Saturday afternoon in the doubleheader versus the Oakville A's. Milton won game one 4-0 and dropped game two by the score of 8-2.

In Game One, Milton's Devin Karlsen threw a complete game two-hit shutout while striking out nine for his first victory of the season.

Kevin Greer led the Red Sox offense going 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBI. Steve Lauzon contributed with three hits going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Carlos D'Costa also collected two hits in the victory.

In Game Two, the Red Sox Liam Tennant suffered the loss after allowing five runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts over six innings.

Adam Mills and Steve Lauzon both added two hits each with Nick Mazzorato adding the other Milton hit.

Justin Pennell - Inside the Numbers

Thornhill Reds outfielder Justin Pennell has been real impressive as of late as he currently leads the GTBL and ranks among the provincial leaders with a .515 average (17-for-33) with 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and seven extra base hits with a .909 SLG%. The Reds are off to one of their best starts as they sit in first place in the GTBL with an 8-1 record.

Pennell leads Reds to victory over Markham
Thornhill Reds Justin Pennell made two outstanding defensive plays, and went 3-for-5 with two homeruns, three RBI and two runs scored, as the Reds beat Markham 7-3 on Friday night.

The Reds Ryan Stewart contributed with two hits going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Travis Skelton and Daniel Lehmkuhl added one hit each in the victory.

Thornhill starter Miguel Sammy improved to 2-0 on the season as he pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while registering two strikeouts. Markham newcomer Min Soo Kim took the loss after allowing three runs (1 earned) on four hits over six innings.

The Pioneers Mark Petrou added two hits in the loss.

Reilly leads Guelph past Twins 5-4
The Guelph Royals defeated the Mississauga Twins by the score of 5-4 Friday night at David E. Hastings Stadium. In the bottom of the 9th, Sean Reilly drove in the game winning run with an RBI single.

Royals starter Brett Lawson went 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts in a no decision. Andrew Vant Wout pitched the final 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs (0 earned) on one hit for his first victory of the season.

For the Twins, starter Kurtis Robinson threw six complete innings allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Matt Bannister suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits with five walks and two K's over two innings of work.

Reilly led the Royals going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Guelph had six other players contribute with one hit each led by Brad Cochrane who recorded two RBI and Jamie Pogue who added an RBI double in the victory. The Twins were led by Ian Choy who went 2-for-4 in the loss.

Gotwalt four-hit performance leads Red Sox to victory
With the score tied 7-7 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Brantford's Justin Gotwalt scored on a wild pitch as the Red Sox escaped with an 8-7 victory over the Ottawa Fats Cats Friday night. This was Ottawa's 10th straight loss.

Brantford led 7-3 after 7 innings, before the Fat Cats answered with a four-run 8th to take their first lead of the game 7-6.

Red Sox starter Steve Murray went six complete innings allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in a no decision. Mark James struggled lasting 1 1/3 innings allowing four runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout. Stefan Strecker would record the victory allowing two hits with one strikeout over 1 1/3 innings.

Fat Cats starter Matt McGovern went seven complete innings allowing six runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Danny Desclouds was charged with the loss allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Justin Gotwalt had a big night going 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Red Sox. Hyung Cho was 3-for-5 with two runs scored while Chris Emmanuel collected two RBI while registering one hit.

For Ottawa, Kyle Barclay, Cody Mombuquette, Marshall MacDonald and Joe Stone all contributed with two hits each. Zach Staniewicz and Mark Charette both drove in two runs each in the loss.

Metros Turner K's 12 in 4-0 shutout

Niagara Metros starter Dustin Turner became the first Niagara pitcher to go the 9-inning distance this season, as he tossed a three-hit shutout in their 4-0 victory over the Oakville A's Thurday night.

The win marked the 6th straight victory for the Metros (including a win in the Oshawa Tournament), after getting off to a 1-3 start to the year.

Turner was in total control limiting the A's to three singles. He issued two walks and struck out 12, and his defense backed him with some fine play, committing just one.

The loss went to A's starter Marc Walton who allowed four runs on eight hits over seven innings.

Niagara got all they would need in the 3rd when they scored a pair of runs, and then added two more in the 4th, and let Turner do the rest.

Catcher Dustin Wiley doubled and added an RBI single to lead the way offensively for the Metros. Andrew Sorochan added a pair of singles and an RBI, while Mike Czerwieniec added a single and two stolen bases. Matt Spillman, Joe Roach, Brandon Beattie, and Garrett Fisher rounded out the nine-hit attack for Niagara.

Carter Buchanan, Courtney Morales, and John Wulf collected the hits for Oakville.

The Metros record improves to 6-3 with the win, and moves them to within 1 1/2 games of first place Glanbrook, in the Johnson Division standings. Oakville drops to the .500 mark, at 4-4-1.

Canadians Arsenault throws no-hitter in 11-0 victory
Whitby ace Mike Arsenault was in one word: dominant Thursday night.

Arsenault threw a seven inning no-hitter, striking out 10 with the only blemish being a one out walk in the bottom of the first inning as the Canadians cruised to an 11-0 win against Martingrove.

Ben Anderson gave Arsenault all the runs he would need, belting a two-run homer to left field in the 2nd inning. Adam Sylvestre followed with a triple, and then scored on a single by Colm Blaney to make the score 3-0.

In the 5th, the Canadians extended the lead to 6-0 as Rob Patterson walked with two out and scored on a two out long ball by Trevor Cain. Chambers Middlebrook followed Cain's blast with one of his own.

In the 7th, the Canadians blew the game open adding five more runs as Dave McElroy doubled to lead off the inning, and Jeff Kingdon walked. With one out, Cain hit a ball that ate the third baseman up to load the bases. With two out, Anderson hit a laser that snuck through the third basemen's legs, scoring two runs. Sylvestre would follow with a three-run homerun making the final 11-0.

Arsenault preserved the no-hitter by shutting the Sox down in order, in the 7th completing an utterly dominant performance on the hill.

Logan homer leads Baycats over Guelph 6-5 in 10th
Barrie's Matt Logan belted a solo homerun in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Baycats past Guelph by the score of 6-5 Thursday night.

The Baycats Paul Spoljaric went 6 1/3 innings allowing five runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. In relief, Chris England came in and pitched 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball registering three strikeouts before Kyle Payne would pitch a shutout inning in the 10th for his third victory of the season.

Logan and Dave Latour both collected two hits each including an RBI double. Jonathan Baksh contributed with two RBI while Phil Steer added three walks scoring all three times in the victory.

For the Royals, Mark Allen belted a three run homerun in the top of the first inning. Jeremy Ware went 2-for-5 with an RBI in the loss.

Late rally leads Twins past Hamilton 4-3
The Mississauga Twins answered with two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning as they defeated the Hamilton Thunderbirds by the score of 4-3 Thursday night.

The Twins Shane Cole went 7 1/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Reliever Kyle Benoit retired all five batters he faced in the final 1 2/3 innings while registering two strikeouts for the victory.

Redbirds end Reds perfect season
The Thornhill Redbirds ended the Thornhill Reds perfect regular season as they defeated them by the score of 9-4 Wednesday night. Going into the game, the Reds were 7-0 in the GTBL and remained the last Senior A team in 2010 with a perfect record.

14-hit attack leads Tecumseh past Athletics 9-3
The Tecumseh Thunder had one of their biggest offensive outputs of the season as they collected 14 hits in a 9-3 victory over the Windsor Athletics Wednesday night.

Five Thunder players had multiple hit performances led by Tom Beale who went 3-for-3. Dan Wolicki went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Dan Romanycia and Ron Rousse both drove in a run each while going 2-for-4 with a double. Andrew Masojc extended his hit streak to 12 games going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Tecumseh starter Andrew Pierce recorded the victory going five strong innings allowing one run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Windsor's Bobby Gilligan suffered the loss after allowing nine runs (8 earned) on 14 hits with six strikeouts over six innings.

Kitchener defeats Maple Leafs 6-5 in 11 innings
The Kitchener Panthers recorded their 11th victory of the season as they overcame a 4-0 deficit early on to defeat the Toronto Maples by the score of 6-5 in 11 innings Wednesday night.

Pete Molloy led the Panthers offense going 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Jeff Pietraszko contributed with two hits and his team leading 15th RBI of the season. Mat Taube also collected two hits including a double and two runs scored. Mike Glinka and James Bruce both chipped in with one hit and one RBI each in the victory.

Kitchener starter Brandon Farquhar went nine innings in a no decision allowing five runs on seven hits with six walks and two strikeouts. Tavis Bruce recorded his first victory of the season throwing two innings of shutout ball. Toronto reliever Cody Powell fell to 1-2 on the season after going 3 1/3 innings allowing one run on three hits with three K's.

Maple Leafs Brian Ivan collected two hits in the loss while Kyle DeGrace belted a solo homerun for his third of the season.

Spiak named "Extra Innings" Senior Baseball Player of the Week

Glanbrook's Rob Spiak has been named this week's "Extra Innings" Senior Baseball Player of the Week. This past week, Spiak batted .476 going 10-for-21 with two doubles, six RBI and five runs scored. In COMBL action Spiak helped lead the Grizzlies to victories over Brampton and Mississauga SW going 5-for-9 (.556 AVG) to move them into first place in their division. He currently ranks among league leaders with a .448 average.

This past week, Grizzlies pitcher Greg Swan posted a 2-0 record throwing 11 1/3 innings of shutout ball while allowing just four hits with six strikeouts. Versus Brampton he picked up the victory and had a no-hitter going into the 7th inning.

Jeff Murdoch, Oshawa Royals (GTBL)
Murdoch helped lead the Royals to two victories this past week. In two games, he batted .500 going 5-for-10 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base. He currently leads the Royals and ranks third in the GTBL with a .438 average (14-for-32). Murdoch has also recorded three doubles, nine RBI and has hit safely in six of seven regular season games.

Jordan Lundberg, Barrie Baycats (IBL)
Barrie's Jordan Lundberg helped lead the Baycats to a 3-0 this past week as they improved to 13-3 on the season. In three games, he batted .667 going 8-for-12 with one RBI and three runs scored. He is currently third in IBL batting with a .365 average (19-for-52).

Luke Baker, Kitchener Panthers (IBL)
Kitchener's Luke Baker batted .625 this past week going 5-for-8 with an RBI and two runs scored. Versus Ottawa he recorded a game high four hits going 4-for-5 with an RBI. He is currently second in IBL batting with a .388 average (19-for-49).

Brian Ivan, Toronto Maple Leafs (IBL)

This past week Maple Leafs Brian Ivan batted .417 going 5-for-12 with a double, two homeruns for a 1.000 SLG%. He also drove in four runs while scoring three times. He is currently fourth in IBL batting with a .356 average (16-for-45) with five doubles, three homeruns and 13 RBI.

Markham defeats Whitby 3-2
The Markham Pioneers won their GTBL leading 8th victory of the season Monday night as they defeated the Whitby Canadians by the score of 3-2 at Kinsmen Stadium.

With two out in the top of the 9th, Markham's Reg Sarne hit the game winning double off Whitby's Lars Clay scoring Brad Binns for the victory.

John Frederick went seven strong for Markham allowing two runs (0 earned) on five hits while striking out seven. Brad Binns recorded the victory after pitching the final two innings giving up just one hit with one strikeout.

Whitby's Lars Clay pitched nine complete innings allowing three runs (2 earned) on eight hits with seven walks and five strikeouts in the loss.

Jeff Fox and Mark Petrou recorded two hits for the Pioneers. Andre Steer added two hits for Whitby.

Late inning rally leads Twins past Kitchener 4-2
The Mississauga Twins scored two runs in the top of the 8th inning as they defeated the Kitchener Panthers by the score of 4-2 ending their six game win streak.

Leading the Twins was Chad Marshall who went 3-for-6 with an RBI. Johnathan Solazzo drove in two runs while going 2-for-4 with a double. Branson Joseph and Greg Densem contributed with two hits each in the victory.

Twins starter Luis Castillo went 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Kurtis Robinson went the rest of the way giving up just one hit with four strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings for the victory.

Kitchener starter Taylor Bratton went six complete innings allowing one run on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Tyler Wilson suffered the loss allowing three runs on two hits with two strikeouts over two innings of work.

Glanbrook wins first place battle over Twins 8-4


In a battle for 1st place overall in the Central Ontario Major Baseball League, the Glanbrook Grizzlies defeated the Mississauga Southwest Twins by the score of 8-4 Sunday night at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

The Twins grabbed an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Glanbrook lead off hitter Lou Proietti answered with a homerun to tie the game 1-1.

The Grizzlies scored two in the 2nd and two more in the 3rd to take a 5-1 lead. The Twins answered back scoring a pair in the 4th and one in the 6th on a Andrew Salmon bomb to cut the lead to 5-4 after six innings.

The Grizzlies would add one run in the 7th inning on a Rob Spiak double and score two more in the 8th on there way to an 8-4 win.

Glanbrook starter Chris Cooney recorded the victory going seven innings allowing four runs (3 earned) on six hits and four strikeouts. Ryan Colling picked up the save, retiring all six batters he faced in the 8th and 9th innings.

Mississauga starter Adam Paish took the loss after lasting just 2 1/3 innings giving up five runs (4 earned) on eight hits and two walks. Andrew Foster finished the game for the Twins, throwing the final 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

For Glanbrook, Lou Proietti went 2-for-4 with a homerun and three runs scored while Corrie Morrison was 3-for-4 with a double. Justin Czorny, Tim Sogan and Rob Spiak all contributed with two hits each in the victory.

Maple Leafs down London 6-1
The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the London Majors by the score of 6-1 in Game One of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

The Leafs Marek Deska improved to 3-1 on the season as he went seven complete innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. London starter Craig Bate suffered the loss after allowing six runs (5 earned) on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts over five innings of work.

Toronto had a balanced offense with eight of the nine starters adding a hit. Brian Ivan led the way going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Kyle Morton belted his second homerun of the season while Damon Topolie extended his hit streak to seven games in the victory.

Maple Leafs Gallo throws two-hit shutout
The Toronto Maple Leafs swept the Sunday doubleheader against the visiting London Majors winning Game Two by the score of 3-0.

Leafs starter Jake Gallo went the distance throwing a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for the victory. This was his first win of the season. London's Pierre MivilleDeshane went six complete innings allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts in the loss.

Kern Watts went 2-for-2 with a double while Brian Ivan belted his second homerun of the season in the victory.

Kitchener captures fifth straight victory
The Kitchener Panthers captured their fifth straight victory while handing the expansion Ottawa Fat Cats their ninth straight loss Sunday afternoon winning by the score of 7-3.

Luke Baker had a big day for the Panthers going 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Mike Winter drove in two runs while going 2-for-4. Mike Glinka, Ben Kangas and Pete Molloy all contributed with two hits each in the victory.

Kitchener starter Ross Davis recorded the victory after going five innings allowing three runs on five hits with six walks and four strikeouts. Tavis Bruce and Derek Sinko combined to shutdown the Ottawa lineup the rest of the way throwing three shutout innings.

Ottawa starter Dave Steffler was roughed up for five runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings for the loss.

Royals defeat Hamilton 3-2
The Guelph Royals broke the 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the ninth inning as they defeated the Hamilton Thunderbirds by the score of 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

With two out in the top of the ninth, the Royals Brian Brown drove in the game winner with an RBI single off Hamilton reliever Ryan VanSpronsen.

Guelph starter Chris Nagorski went five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in a no decision. In relief, Royals ace Meleti Melehes struckout six of the 12 batters he faced while allowing just one hit in the final four innings for the victory.

The T-Birds Matt Martinow went six complete innings allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. VanSpronsen was credited with the loss after going three innings giving up one run on four hits with two K's.

Leading the Royals offense was Brown and Kevin Hinton who both went 2-for-4. Brown also drove in two runs for the winners.

Hamilton's Darnell Duckett and Matt McGraw both were 2-for-4 in the loss. Duckett has recorded a hit in 11 of 12 games this season.

Barrie blanks Fat Cats in doubleheader
The Barrie Baycats continued to roll as they defeated the Ottawa at Cats 6-0 and 2-0 in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader in the nation's capital. Barrie sits in first place in the IBL with a 13-3 overall record having won eight of their last nine games. The expansion Fat Cats have now dropped eight straight.

In Game One, the Baycats Brad Bissell improved to 3-0 on the season as he went six strong innings allowing just two hits with six strikeouts for the shutout victory. In his first appearance, Jas Shergill struck out two of the three batters he faced in the 7th.

Ottawa starter Matt Hummell lasted just three innings allowing five runs (2 earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts over three innings for the loss.

For Barrie Ryan Spataro and Stevie Lewis both went 2-for-3 in Game One. Jordan Lundberg and Matt Richardson also contributed with two hits each going 2-for-4.

In Game Two, Barrie starter Adam Hawes was impressive as he threw a complete game two hit shutout registering eight strikeouts for his first victory of the season.

Jordan Lundberg went 3-for-4 with an RBI finishing with five hits on the afternoon. Jonathan Baksh was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Fat Cats starter Matt McGovern suffered the loss after going 6 2/3 innings allowing two runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Oshawa Invitational cancelled

The 2010 Oshawa Invitational, has been cancelled due to rain.

The overnight, and early Saturday downpour, washed away all 3 fields in Pickering, Bowmanville and Oshawa, and too many games were lost to resume Sunday.

Canadians down Leaside 5-3
The Whitby Canadians opened the Oshawa Invitational Tournament with a 5-3 victory over Leaside Friday night.

Whitby's Brad Crone recorded the victory going the complete game allowing three runs on 10 hits. Leaside's Joe Frugona was issued the loss.

Leading the Canadians offense was Tristan Beadle who went 3-for-3 with three RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored. Rob Patterson was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Julian Daligadu (1-for-3, double run,) and Jason George (1-for-2, RBI, run) rounded out the Whitby leaders.

Leaside's Bryan Rock was a homerun short of the cycle going 3-for-4. Henry Yap also collected three hits going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI while Steve Hopkins went 2-for-2 in the loss.

Six run third leads Rangers past Tecumseh 8-6
The Etobicoke Rangers scored six runs in the third inning off Tecumseh starter Matt Stezycki en route to an 8-6 victory over the Thunder Friday night in Oshawa.

Mike Janes went the distance for Etobicoke allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts over seven innings. Stezycki was nailed with the loss after lasting three innings while giving up six runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

For the Rangers, Peter Saweczko went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Matt Ferriera and Damian Eccleton both contributed with one hit while driving in two runs each in the victory.

Tecumseh's Bill Gillen and Dan Romanycia both went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

Glanbrook downs Battlecats 6-1
The Glanbrook improved to 7-2 on the season as they defeated the Brampton Battlecats by the score of 6-1.

In his first start of the year, the Grizzlies Greg Swan was impressive throwing six innings of shutout ball allowing one hit with two strikeouts for the victory. Ang Amore threw the final three innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and two strikeouts.

Lou Proietti had a fantastic defensive game at short for the Griz, and went 3-for-5 at the plate. Rob Spiak also added three hit going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Brampton’s Jainell Purohit was the losing pitcher going five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Windsor Stars fall to Troy Jet Box 8-6
The Windsor Stars fell to 7-3 on the season as they dropped an 8-6 decision to Troy Jet Box.

The Stars Steve Carter suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (3 earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts over four innings. Jason Lauzon pitched the final two innings allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Leading the Windsor offense was Jake Myers who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Dan Hansen and Bryan Simone both collected two hits and one RBI each.

Majors down Hamilton 9-5
The London Majors defeated the Hamilton Thunderbirds by the score of 9-5 in Intercounty Baseball League action Friday night.

London starter Andy St. Gelais recorded his fifth victory of the season after going six innings allowing two runs on two hits with eight walks and a game high 12 strikeouts. The T-Birds Jordell Farquharson suffered the loss after giving up four runs on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts over four innings of work.

Leading the Majors was Allan Cattrysse and Cris Chambers who both collected two hits and drove in two runs each. Ryan Cattrysse and Ryan Lapensee also added two hits each in the victory.

Hamilton's Adam Cholewka went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Graeme Carey also drove in two runs in the loss.

Pogue leads Guelph over Red Sox 9-4
The Guelph Royals ended the Brantford Red Sox six game winning streak as defeated the defending IBL Champions by the score of 9-4 Friday night on the road.

Leading the Royals offense was Jamie Pogue who went 2-for-3 with a homerun, four RBI and three runs scored. Mark Allen went 2-for-3 with a double, thriple and three RBI while Brad Cochrane also registered two hits, including a double, while driving in two runs. Jeremy Ware, Chris Stewart, Sean Reilly and Bryan Condotta all contributed with two hits each in the victory.

For Brantford, Josh McCurdy and Lee Delfino both added two hits each while Jason Gotwalt went 1-for-2 with two RBI in the loss.

Guelph's Brett Lawson recorded the victory after going 6 2/3 innings allowing four runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts. In relief, Mike Goemans would pitch the final 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball while striking our two.

Red Sox starter Scott Robinson dropped to 3-1 on the season after allowing five runs (2 earned) on 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout over five innings.

Kitchener comes from behind to defeat Maple Leafs 6-5
The Kitchener Panthers trailed 5-0 after two innings before answering with four runs in the third and one each in the fourth and ninth innings as they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5 Thursday night.

Panthers starter Tyler Wilson lasted just two innings allowing five runs on nine hits. In relief, Kyle McKay, Joey Paulin and Derek Sinko combined for the final seven innings of shutout ball allowing just one hit. Sinko recorded the victory improving his record to 4-0.

The Maple Leafs Cody Powell suffered the loss after loading the bases in the bottom of the 9th with Brent Mitchell scoring the winning run.

Mat Taube and Brent Mitchell led the Kitchener offense adding three hits each. Kevin Childs added a hit and drove in two runs.

For Toronto, Kyle DeGrace went 2-for-4 with two homeruns and four RBI. Danny Gibbons went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Raul Borjas collected two hits in the loss.

Baycats defeat Mississauga 4-3
The Barrie Baycats captured their league leading 11th victory of the season as they defeated the Mississauga Twins by the score of 4-3 Thursday night. In the bottom of the ninth Barrie's Dave Latour scored the winning run after an error from the Twins Carlos Garcia.

Leading the Baycats was Jordan Lundberg who went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Dave Latour went 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Matt Logan, Ryan Davis and Donavan Latour all collected single RBIs.

Barrie starter Paul Spoljaric went seven strong innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out seven in a no decision. Chris England recorded the victory after going 1 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits.

Mississauga's Kyle Benoit was charged with the loss after giving up an unearned run in the ninth. Kyle Langille was the lone Twins highlight going 2-for-3 with a triple.

Stars defeat Tecumseh 3-2
The Windsor Stars held on two defeat the Tecumseh Thunder by the score of 3-2 Wednesday night.

Windsor starter Steve Teno pitched five innings of shutout ball before giving up two runs in the 6th inning. He allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out five for the victory. Reliever Brad Boussey allowed one hit in the 7th for the save, his first of the season.

The Thunder's Ron Rousse suffered the loss after allowing two runs on five hits over three innings of work.

Windsor's Dave Mastrodicasa and Bryan Dufour both recorded RBI singles. Tecumseh's Andrew Masojc went 2-for-4 in the loss.

Late inning rally leads Niagara past Milton 4-3
The Niagara Metros scored a pair of runs in the top of the 8th inning as they defeated the Milton Red Sox by the score of 4-3 Saturday.

Milton's Devin Karlsen and Metros TJ Tavender went toe-to-toe against each other on the mound for most of seven innings. Karlsen held Niagara to two runs on four hits over seven innings while striking out two. Reliever Kevin Cooper was tagged with the loss, surrendering a pair of runs in the top of the 8th.

Leading the Metros was Geoff Strong who recorded three hits on the afternoon. Dan Proctor contributed with two hits highlighted by a solo homerun in the 4th.

For the Red Sox, Carlos D'Costa led the way with three hits. Rookie Lee Mathe' added two hits and a pair of RBI while Jon Roth also registered a pair of singles in the loss.

The Sox were retired in order in the bottom of the 9th by Niagara southpaw Dave Davidson, who fanned three straight to earn the save, his third of the season.

Thunder fall to Troy Jet Box 8-2
The Tecumseh Thunder had their four game win streak come to end Saturday as they dropped an 8-2 decision to Troy Jet Box.

The Jet Box had a 14-hit attack led by the duo of Ron Kochan who went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Adwin Springer who was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Both Kochan and Springer recorded a homerun and double each. Nick Smith contributed with two hits and two RBI while Drew Churchward also added two hits.

Troy starter Mike Borkowski went five strong innings giving up two runs (0 earned) on four hits with two walks and four K's for the victory.

The Thunder's Rob Blunck picked up the loss after going three innings allowing five runs (4 earned) on seven hits with four walks and one strikeout. Dan McFarlane pitched the final three innings allowing three runs on on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Ken Price went 2-for-3 for Tecumseh in the loss.

Lundberg walkoff homer leads Baycats over London 4-3 in 10 innings
The Barrie Baycats Jordan Lundberg belted a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 10th inning off London reliever Mike Delong as Barrie defeated the Majors 4-3 improving their overall record to 9-2 Saturday afternoon at Barrie Metals Stadium.

Barrie starter Brad Bissell went seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in a no decision. Reliever Kyle Payne pitched two innings of shutout ball before Chris England got London out in order in the top of the 10th for his first victory of the season.

London's C. Bate went 6 1/3 innings giving up three runs on three hits with eight walks and five strikeouts in a no decision. Delong dropped to 0-2 on the season allowing one run on one hit with five strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings.

Maple Leafs defeat Mississauga 6-4
The Toronto Maple Leafs answered with three runs in the top of the ninth to defeat the Mississauga Twins by the score of 6-4 Saturday at Meadowvale Field.

Leafs starter Jake Gallo pitched six innings allowing four runs (2 earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts in a no decision. Cody Powell retired six straight Mississauga players in the 8th and 9th innings for the victory.

Mississauga's Adam Kudryk went 5 2/3 innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Franco Pace was credited with the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in one inning of work.

Gamin Teague led the Toronto offense going 2-for-3 with three RBI which included a solo homerun in the 7th and a two-run single in the 9th. Kyle DeGrace also added a hit and drove in a run for the Leafs.

The Twins Branson Joseph went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Eitan Maoz belted his first homerun of the season.

Ilderton's Latta throws two-hit shutout
The Ilderton Red Army defeated the Niagara Expos by the score of 5-0 in the opening game of the Tillsonburg Red Sox Tournament Friday night. Ilderton starter Jeff Latta went the distance throwing a two-hit shutout.

Glanbrook downs Whitby 6-2
The Glanbrook Grizzlies downed the Whitby Canadians by the score of 6-2 Friday night at the Tillsonburg Red Sox Tournament.

Grizzlies starter Chris Cooney threw a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts for the victory. Corrie Morrison went 2-for-3 with two RBI and also made a key grab in the 4th inning with two outs ending a Whitby rally.

Whitby downs Woodslee 7-5
The Whitby Canadians improved to 1-1 in Tillsonburg as they defeated Woodslee by the score of 7-5 Saturday morning.

Canadians ace Mike Arsenault registered the victory after going five innings allowing four runs (all unearned) with a game high 12 strikeouts. Reliever Marc Nolan recorded the save.

Trevor Cain led the Whitby offense going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Andre Steer went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base while James Rowe contributed with two hits and a run scored. Brad Crone also drove in two runs in the victory.

Glanbrook advances to semi-finals with 7-2 victory
The Glanbrook Grizzlies improved to 2-0 at the Tlllsonburg Tournament as they rolled past Woodslee by the score of 7-2. Tim Sogan threw five innings to collect the win, while Greg swan threw two shutout innings in relief. The Griz will now take on the host Red Sox in one of two semi-finals Sunday morning.
